J. Carter Whittington, Of Counsel

Carter grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and earned his undergraduate
degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He went on to attend law school in Raleigh, where he graduated cum laude in 2016, and has made the Triangle his home ever since.

For nearly a decade, Carter practiced at a large law firm handling a wide range of
workers’ compensation matters, representing injured workers across North Carolina. Through this work, he became a Board Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law, gaining extensive experience navigating complex claims and advocating for clients during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. At this stage in his career, Carter is excited to focus on a more personalized approach to representation—intentionally decreasing his caseload to spend more time getting to know his clients and pursuing the best possible outcomes for each case. He looks forward to serving individuals and families throughout Wake and Johnston County and the surrounding Triangle for many years to come.

Outside of work, Carter lives in Raleigh with his wife, Angela, who grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia. Interestingly, they met through a mediator involved in a prior workers’ compensation case Carter handled. After teaching elementary school students for ten years in Virginia and Wake County, Angela transitioned to a role with UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine. Carter and Angela are proud members of their church in Cary and enjoy an active life outside the office. Much of their free time is spent caring for their son, Oliver, hiking local trails and national parks, spending time with friends, planning trips around scenic landscapes, and visiting a winery or two when they can sneak away. Carter also enjoys running, experimenting with new recipes at home, dining out, and unwinding as a family with a great movie or a puzzle. Their dog, Lawson, is a constant companion who keeps them moving and laughing.
